WHAT ARE THE CHOICES? SLIDING GATES
Sliding gate systems are generally used where there is
not enough space for a swing gate as they do not encroach on the driveway
and can be installed where space for a swing gate is not available. However,
they do require a straight, level, unobstructed perimeter adjacent to the opening to operate.
Assuming that the opening is to remain the same width, it is not normally possible to automate an existing gate as the width of a sliding gate needs to be wider than the opening. It is possible to automate existing sliding gates if the factors detailed above apply to the site conditions.

There are special safety considerations needed with sliding gates which your professional installer will be prepared for. For example, if a sliding gate is installed next to railings there is a danger of a child putting their arm through the gate and the railing and it would become trapped when the gate is operational. There are ways that this can be avoided which your installer will advise you on.
